A Seat at the Table is a special exhibit at the Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the United States Senate that shows artists’ response to the themes of inclusion, representation, and public service. Twenty-three artists created these chairs to honor former Representative Shirley Chisholm and her inspiring quote: “If they don’t give you a seat at the table, bring a folding chair.” Each chair interprets the values, identities, and accomplishments of iconic historical and contemporary leaders into seats of different shapes and forms. Collectively they question who belongs at tables of power.
