The City of Newton owns a wealth of historic materials that speak to the community's social, cultural, and governmental past. These materials reflect the civic life of and provide insight into Newton from the 19th through the early 20th century, a time when Newton was transforming from agriculture to industry and becoming a suburban Boston residential community. Presented here are photographs of the Newton Symphony Orchestra, Newton Choral Society, Newton Arts Center, Herb Pomeroy and his Orchestra; notable Newton residents or figures of importance to the City of Newton; aftermath of the September, 1938 hurricane and the blizzard of February, 1978; circa 1935 view of the Middlesex & Boston Street Railway fleet; train station (possibly Newtonville) with waiting horse-drawn wagon and carriages; Centre Street looking north from the Newton Corner train depot; early automobile accident; Boston & Albany Railroad train and tracks from Church Street Bridge; P.
