Coast Guard Heritage Museum

The Di Rosario Collection

or
These photos and diary were taken/kept by Coast Guard Carpenter’s Mate 3rd class Giacomo Leno Di Rosario while stationed on board LST 795 during WWII. The original diary was donated to the CG Heritage Museum in Barnstable, MA on September 25, 2019 by his son John Di Rosario from Phoenix.

Photos are of Petty Officer Di Rosario, his crewmates, his ship and of many of the places that he visited from September 1944 through 1945 including landing on the beaches of Iwo Jima and Okinawa.

The diary has many very interesting entries including one that could confirm the Coast Guard’s involvement in an historic raising of the American flag by the U.S. Marines on Iwo Jima.
