The Photograph Collection consists of images documenting the people, places and events of Southeastern Massachusetts from the late nineteenth to the mid-twentieth century. Most of the subjects are linked to New Bedford, Massachusetts and the surrounding towns of Fairhaven, Dartmouth, Mattapoisett, and Westport and include maritime industries, particularly: whaling; portraits; festivals and parades; residential, commercial and public buildings; monuments and parks; ships; and street scenes. Among the many photographers represented are the Bierstadt Brothers, S.F. Adams, Joseph G. Tirrell, T.E.M. White, Headley & Reed, Underwood & Underwood, and George F. Parlow.
