This collection is from the contents of vertical files in the Annisquam Historical Society.

Annisquam, a village in Gloucester, Cape Ann, Massachusetts, has its historical society based in the old firehouse, Deluge 8. The building and its contents are under the aegis of the Annisquam Association. Annisquam’s seaside location has given rise to its history, with fishing and ship building being the earliest industries. Native Americans had also benefitted from fishing--and probably from hunting and agriculture as well. Arrowheads and other artifacts have been found around the village. After the age of the sea captains, tourists and summer residents, including a seasonal influx of artists, arrived. Over the last 150 years, local inhabitants, summer residents and visitors have appreciated the special character of the village. Many have contributed to Annisquam's written history.
