Perkins Photograph Albums
Collection of eight albums:
Portrait Album, circa 1860: Contains portraits of important individuals in the history of the school, including Samuel Gridley Howe, Michael Anagnos, and Laura Bridgman, in addition to teachers and staff.
Perkins Institution Kindergarten Department Album, World's Columbian Exposition, 1893: Includes images of the buildings, students, teachers, classrooms, and tactile lesson materials including wooden blocks and items modeled out of clay. Opening in 1887, the Perkins Institution Kindergarten was the first kindergarten for the blind in the United States.
Perkins Institution Album, circa 1893: Photographs from Perkins South Boston campus in Dorchester Heights. Includes images of the assembly hall, research library, museum, classrooms, gymnasium, Sloyd workshop, manual training, sewing, and tactile learning objects. Photographs overlap with another album made for the World's Columbian Exposition in 1893.
Boys' Department, Primary and Kindergarten, Perkins Institution, St. Louis Exposition Album, circa 1904: Pictures are predominately of the campus, tactile learning devices, students attending reading, arithmetic, manual training, music and physical education classes, and photographs of performances including recitals and theater productions.
Girls' Department, Primary and Kindergarten, Perkins Institution, St. Louis Exposition Album, circa 1904: Includes Perkins South Boston campus, the boys' and girls' Primary School, and the Kindergarten in Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts. Pictures are predominately of students attending reading, arithmetic, manual training, music, and physical education classes.
Royal Normal College for the Blind, England, 1860-1900: The photographs are of the Royal Normal College for the Blind grounds, students, classrooms, athletic programs, special events, and of founder Sir Francis Joseph Campbell.
Perkins Album, 1913: Images from a photograph album created by the Perkins Institution and Massachusetts School for the Blind of the new campus built in Watertown, Massachusetts. The school moved to its Watertown campus in 1912 after outgrowing its previous South Boston location.
Perkins Album, circa 1932: Images of students, campus, summer camp, and special events including theater, sports activities, and centennial celebrations at the Perkins Watertown, Massachusetts campus.
